A Mini Miracle

  • Roan Miniature Gelding
  • Entry Date – 5/1/12
  • Type of rescue – Surrendered
  • Reason – Surrendered by a hoarder
  • Special needs – None

Ranger was a Lake County (Christmas Valley) neglect case. The Lake County Sheriff asked Strawberry Mountain Mustangs horse rescue for help with some animals surrendered by a hoarder. Ranger, a Shetland mare, a Pinto stallion and a Mini donkey were taken to the rescue.
Ranger’s teeth were in horrible condition. The attending vet said that most likely they had never been floated. His feet were severely over grown, but not slippered. Instead, they grew straight up so that if you inserted your finger into the bottom of his hoof, you could not reach his frog. Four inches of hoof were cut off the first trim. His chestnuts were over grown (about three inches long) and curled. He was also incredibly emaciated and anemic from parasites.
Ranger came to the Foundation from the previous rescue in very good condition. He is absolutely adorable and when called by name, he comes running every time without fail. He shares a stall that opens out into a large run with the Shetland pony, Poquito and they are both turned out sometimes in the indoor arena to play with a boarded horse named Whisper, or into a large pen for a little grazing.
