Hazel was first rescued from an elderly woman in Williams, Oregon, and brought to a new home in Grants Pass. Raffie arrived at the Equamore sanctuary in September of 2012 after Jackson County investigated a report of two neglected horses. A deputy called Equamore to take in both horses, but at the last minute, the owners refused to surrender the other, younger horse, allowing only Raffie to be taken to the sanctuary. Bryant is a beautiful Appendix Quarter Horse whose Rogue Valley neighbors noticed his neglect. After Jackson County Animal Control intervened, he was brought to the Equamore sanctuary in 2007. As you can see in this photo, he was terribly thin, and his hip bones were completely devoid of hair and full of scabs. This afternoon, Equamore Sanctuary hosted a Christmas at the Barn party with stable tours, stories about the horses, and hot chocolate, cider, and other goodies, creating a wonderful opportunity for the community to learn more about Equamore.
