Equamore Foundation Horse Sanctuary

I’ve Been Thinking

I think a lot lately.  Hoover would call that a danger sign!     Magic just thinks it’s silly.  Magic says horses just live in the moment and planning and worrying is a human defect.   But I am not your average horse – I am Thor!    I have had some setbacks, or so the people say.  A little bolting here, a refusal to be caught there.   I need to figure this out. After all this time, I believe that the Sanctuary is…

What’s Wrong With These Pictures?

What’s Wrong With These Pictures? These pictures are  wrong!    I know we look awesome.   Magic and I are behaving like gentlemen in the cross ties.    Our halters suit us.    But I’ll tell you what’s wrong here – IT IS DINNER TIME!    We were waiting at the gate to come in for dinner.   We are always first – the rest of our herd knows who is in charge here.   But instead of leading me to my stall where my hay was waiting,…

Ah, Magic!

Magic and I have become best of friends these last months.    Our stalls are next to each other—he has Hoover’s old stall with the great turnout.  We graze together; we roll in the mud together; when the fields are too wet, we hang out in the arena together; and we go to the cross ties together to have our feet cleaned.   While he teases me a bit about my crush on Bo, he understands my love of grey horses with…

Update on Bryant

January 28, 2013 Bryant has made so much progress since he got his special shoes.  Other than of course being more comfortable and energetic, Bryant is starting to interact with other horses.  He joined in Buckley’s favorite game of nip and scream, and raced around the arena in a game of chase with Pete, Mowen and Josey.  Perhaps Bryant has stayed to himself all this time because he didn’t feel sound enough for horse play with the guys.  Perhaps he…

I Like Bo

January 23, 2013 A young gelding that I admired but had not seen for a while appeared recently in the field where Magic and I now graze.  Raffie!  He has changed.  Last time I saw him he was so skinny and his hair was so odd.  Now he is big and healthy looking, and I can even tell that he is an Arab.  His tail is still broken, but this summer we will help him with the flies. The reason…

Happy Anniversary to Sara

It was a treat to be at Equamore last week for this very special event: the one-year anniversary of Sara and her “person,” Equamore board vice-president Ruth Kennedy. Being a “person” to Sara means walking, grooming, and visiting her — as well as proffering treats (Sara and Ruth share an apple at the end of nearly every day). After Sara was rescued from severe neglect by Equamore back in 2008, she was placed twice in adopted homes and twice returned. In February of 2010, the sanctuary became her…
