In 2005 Brie and her mother Zoë were both injured during an attack by a stray dog. While the wound to Zoë’s face healed, the injury to her leg was more severe, but she still managed to recover with very little scarring. In her panic to escape the attack, Brie impaled her chest on a tree branch. To make matters worse, their owner could no longer afford to pay for stabling. Both horses were heading for auction, but

fearing the consequences for Zoë, who could not be ridden because of lameness issues unrelated to the dog attack, the owner turned to Equamore Foundation for help. Because these two horses had no other means of support, they were taken into the Foundation. Zoë was adopted as a companion horse while Brie remains at the Sanctuary where she has spent most of her life.
