How this gift helped:

Equamore Foundations uses this gift to help its horses.
Forty-two-year-old Red Cloud sometimes gets down in his stall on his bad side and can’t get up. The slide and sling have been used to help him regain his footing and keep on his feet for another year of being the official Equamore greeter.

Equamore Foundation uses the gift to help the community.
Both sling and slide are available for use by local veterinarians and animal control officers who may need them to help horses who have temporary lameness issues that make it necessary to help them stand.

Equamore Foundation has sponsored regular training sessions in the use of the slide and sling since purchase in 2009.

How you can help.
You can make one-time gifts with a specific purposes, like purchasing the Anderson sling. Or you can purchase horse-related items like special feeds, boots, or other equipment for use with the aged and/or infirm Foundation horses like Red Cloud.

The Twelve Ways of Giving

“The Twelve Days of Christmas,” chronicles the gifts received on the twelve days following the 25th of December and ending on the 6th of January. We’ve changed the song to list the twelve ways our “Thousand Friends” have helped Equamore Foundation address the growing problem of unwanted or abandoned horses during 2010.

The First Way of Giving:

Donations for a Specific Purpose.

In 2008, a generous donor contributed $5,000 to Equamore Foundation to purchase an “Anderson Equine Sling” to be kept by the Foundation for its own and general public use. In 2009, the Foundation negotiated for the sling and also purchased an “Equine Slide,” which local veterinarians had requested as an adjunct to the sling. Both have been used by Equamore Foundation to help horses who become “cast” or who cannot stand by themselves.

History Lesson: the First Day of Christmas

Currently, the twelve days and nights of Christmas are celebrated in widely varying ways around the world. For example, some give gifts only on Christmas Night, some only on Twelfth Night and some on each of the twelve nights. St. Stephen’s Day, or the Feast of St. Stephen, is a Christian saint’s day celebrated on 26 December. The day is also know as Boxing Day, the first weekday after Christmas and was traditionally marked by the giving of Christmas boxes to service workers (such as postal workers and trades people) in the United Kingdom. In the carol, the gift of the day is a “partridge in a pear tree.”
