Chance and I have had our differences – all over Bojingles, the lovely mare.   But today he lost Sassy who he had protected and guarded for years.  Even when the other horses in his herd ran off to the top of the field to play and graze, he stayed with the frail Sassy.   When Sassy could not go out at all, Chance stayed in, too.   When she called, he was always there for her.

This reminds me of when Hoover died.   I had no idea what to do without him – my life was spent protecting him.   I want Chance to know that even though he will grieve, and wonder what do with his life now, all is not lost.  He can take comfort in the fact that Sassy brought him here where he is well loved.   And in time Chance will cherish the freedom that was Sassy’s last gift to him.   I hope he joins us now in the gelding field, where I will forget about past issues and show him the high pasture.

I am Thor and I am an Equamore horse.
