Left Without His Pasture Mate, Buckley Needed a New Arrangement

  • Black Tennessee Walker Gelding
  • Entry Date – 3/19/07 at age 17
  • Type of rescue – Surrendered
  • Reason – Owner neglect
  • Special needs – None

Buckley and his pasture mate left their unlocked enclosure to face the dangers on Royal Crest Road near Phoenix, Oregon. Unable to avoid oncoming traffic, the mare was struck by a hit-and-run driver and died some hours later, even though a veterinarian had arrived to help her. Interviews with the owner revealed that he was unconcerned with the result of his own carelessness and uncaring that Buckley had been left without a pasture mate to meet his needs as a herd animal. Police convinced him to surrender the horse and Buckley came into Equamore Foundation in March of 2007 where he bonded with Henry, who is his constant companion.
